Guidance by Dr Gabriël Roux

Of the many diseases I've dealt with over 40 years, Dysphagia stands out as one of the most tragic and most challenging conditions.

Why?

Because it is heartbreaking to see the whole of society grow older than ever, yet many will wither away in nursing homes and at home from malnutrition and dehydration as a consequence of Dysphagia. Under our guard, the problem has reached pandemic proportions, and we, the medical profession, are to be blamed. We miss 80% of the diagnosis and, even when diagnosed, are nearly incompetent in the management of the condition. The result? We are sucked into the "Death Spiral of Dysphagia" with its dire consequences.

So, we invite you to explore the Lifemere Information section on Dysphagia, a comprehensive resource that aims to raise awareness and improve the diagnosis and management of this challenging condition.

Dysphagia's Signs and Causes

An estimated 80% of cases are un-diagnosed. Early diagnosis allows for rehabilitation before complications make rehabilitation increasingly difficult.
